Chicken is a bird from the family Phasianidae. The chickens belong to the genus Gallus from the Galliformes order.

 

Quick facts:

Chickens are one of the most populated domestic animals in the world. The number of chickens around the world increased from 19 billion in 2011 to 23.7 billion in 2018.

 

Their memory is quite something, chickens have a great memory as they can distinguish between over 100 different faces of people and animals.

In the last 8,000 years, chickens have been all over the world and become the most domesticated animal, but where are chickens native to?

Chickens were early domesticated and native to multiple regions of Asia, more accurately in the regions from Southeast Asia to Southwest China.

 

There are 150 different breeds of chickens that come in various colors, patterns, and sizes.

The size, weight, and shape all vary depending on the chicken breed. But, an average female (called a hen) can weigh between 5.51 and 8.81 lbs (2.5 and 4 kilograms). Meanwhile, the roaster (a male chicken) weighs on average 7.5 lbs (3.4 kilograms).

For size, chickens have an average tall of 27.6 inches (70 cm), despite their sex.
